Contract PCB assembly
PCB assembly for recurring production in San Diego
Spectrum Assembly, Inc. (SAI) builds surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole PCB assemblies for recurring OEM production at its Carlsbad facility in San Diego County. You get assembly, firmware loading and production test, acrylic or urethane conformal coating, and program-scoped traceability from one manufacturer.

Assembly scope
SMT and through-hole PCB assembly, performed directly by SAI
SAI performs PCB assembly in-house and reviews your manufacturing information before confirming process, programming, test, and record requirements for the program.
Surface-mount (SMT) assembly
SAI builds surface-mount PCB assemblies for recurring OEM production. Board, component, and production requirements are reviewed with you at RFQ, and practical limits are confirmed during review.
Through-hole assembly
SAI performs through-hole assembly where the board and build call for it. Process requirements are confirmed during the same review.
Manufacturing-readiness and DFM review
Before production, SAI reviews material availability and manufacturing-process specifications. DFM review and BOM or alternate-component support are offered services, scoped per program.
Programming and testing
SAI performs firmware loading, device programming, and production testing; the customer supplies the developed test fixture and test requirements.
Conformal coating
SAI applies acrylic and urethane conformal coating in-house. Parylene coating is sourced through an outside supplier when a program specifies it.
Pilot build before production
SAI can run a pilot build before full production. Your approval to proceed is informed by yield and test-data review, and the pilot scope is set per program.
Materials and responsibilities
SAI sources turnkey material and runs production test on your fixtures
Turnkey is SAI's preferred material model: SAI procures the bill of material. Hybrid arrangements, where you supply some material, are supported; the material approach is confirmed at RFQ.
SAI loads firmware, programs devices, and runs production test. You supply the developed test fixture and the test requirements; SAI controls the fixture under an internal asset number.
Inspection and reporting are set with your program requirements. When a PCB assembly needs X-ray inspection, add SAI's X-ray inspection for PCB assemblies to the program.
Who this is for
Built for OEMs with recurring PCB assembly programs
SAI's certificate scopes define the fit. ISO 13485:2016 covers PCB assemblies, harnesses, cables, and system integrations for the medical device industry. AS9100D, the aerospace quality management standard, with ISO 9001:2015 covers PCBAs, wire and cable harness assemblies, and complete systems integration.
Industrial OEMs moving a product into recurring production fit the same model: defined requirements, repeat builds, and one manufacturer for PCBA, cable, and integration. View SAI's ISO 13485:2016 and AS9100D certificates.
Traceability and records
Lot-level component traceability and serial-level PCBA records
- SMD components: manufacturer lot number or date code, as the program requires.
- Hardware: lot number when available; fabricated hardware by manufacturer lot number.
- PCBA serial numbers: traceable to the reference-designator level.
- Records: packing slip, certificate of conformance, and Device History Record when required.
SAI confirms the record package with you during program review.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about PCB assembly in San Diego
- What files should I send for a PCB assembly quote?
Send your expected quantities or forecast, the most recent bill of material, CAD board-assembly files, test requirements, and any manufacturing work instructions you already have. SAI resolves missing or conflicting information with you and may offer to create missing documentation as a separately scoped NRE item.
- Do you build turnkey or consigned?
Turnkey is SAI’s preferred model: SAI procures the bill of material. Hybrid arrangements, where you supply some material, are supported; the material approach is confirmed during RFQ review.
- Who develops the test fixtures?
For PCB assemblies, you supply the developed test fixture and the test requirements; SAI performs the firmware loading, device programming, and production testing. For cable and wire-harness programs, SAI can develop the tester and the test software.
- What conformal coating do you apply?
SAI applies acrylic and urethane conformal coating in-house. Parylene coating is performed by an outside supplier when a program specifies it.
- What traceability and records can you provide?
SMD components are traced by manufacturer lot number or date code and hardware by lot number when available, as each program requires. PCBA serial-number traceability can reach the reference-designator level. Records can include a packing slip, certificate of conformance, and Device History Record when required.
- Where are you located and who do you serve?
SAI is at 6300 Yarrow Drive, Suite 100, Carlsbad, CA 92011, in San Diego County, California. SAI builds PCB assemblies for OEMs with recurring production programs: the medical device industry under its ISO 13485:2016 scope, programs that require AS9100D, the aerospace quality management standard, and industrial OEMs.
- Can you run a pilot build before production?
Yes. SAI can run a pilot build before full production, scoped per program. Your approval to proceed is informed by yield and test-data review of the pilot.
- Which certifications cover PCB assembly?
Both of SAI’s NSF-ISR certifications. ISO 13485:2016 (certificate C0095753-MD7) scope: “The manufacture of PCB assemblies, harnesses, cables and system integrations per customer specifications for the medical device industry.” AS9100D with ISO 9001:2015 (certificate C0095753-AS6) scope: “Manufacturing of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), wire and cable (W&C) harness assemblies, and complete systems integration per customer specifications.”
