X-ray inspection for PCB assemblies in San Diego

Spectrum Assembly, Inc. (SAI) performs X-ray inspection of PCB assemblies at its Carlsbad facility in San Diego County using a Quadra 5 X-ray inspection system. X-ray inspection is non-destructive and shows solder joints that optical inspection cannot see, such as connections under BGA and QFN packages.

X-ray inspection is one of the inspection methods SAI can apply to a PCB assembly program. Which assemblies are inspected, at what sample rate, and what is reported are defined with you during program review rather than assumed for every build.

  • Hidden solder joints. X-ray imaging shows joints under area-array and leadless packages (BGA, QFN) and other connections that are not visible from the surface.
  • Non-destructive. The assembly is inspected without being altered, so the same unit continues through programming, test, and integration.
  • Reporting defined per program. Tell SAI which assemblies need X-ray inspection and what record your program requires; the inspection and reporting scope is confirmed at program review.

X-ray inspection supports SAI's PCB assembly in San Diego and the PCB work inside box build and system integration programs, under a quality system certified to ISO 13485:2016 and AS9100D / ISO 9001:2015 (view certificates).

Add X-ray inspection to your PCB assembly program

Share which assemblies and packages need X-ray inspection, the sample rate or coverage you expect, and the record you need. SAI reviews the request with the rest of the program and confirms the inspection scope.
